Wiggins Battery,Arkansas Horse Artillery

ROBERTS'/WIGGINS' ARKANSAS BATTERY

Roberts'/Wiggins' Arkansas Battery was organized in the late summer and early fall of 1862. Some members had been seen prior active service briefly in Reid's Arkansas Battery. Almost all the members of the battery had been recruited in Clark County, Arkansas, giving the battery one of its two nicknames - the Clark County Light Artillery. Because the battery served almost exclusively with the calvary arm of the service, it was also called the Arkansas Horse Artillery.

Captains Franklin Roberts and J. H. Wiggins commanded the unit. Like most Civil War units, however, alternate designations were used in place of the official name on numerous occasions. These unofficial names were derived from the name of the officer in charge of a section of the battery or one who temporarily commanded the whole unit.

What We Do

Wiggins' Battery, Arkansas Horse Artillery, C.S.A. is a non profit corporation formed to reenact the Civil War and to teach the public Civil War history. We strive to keep history alive and to portray an accurate recreation of that historical era. Also to teach that there is no need to war with our brothers, that we can settle our differences by communicating with our countrymen.
